★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The hospitality at Kare Jao Jorm Thai was really good and the servers were attentive and warm. They were able to decorate a small space tastefully with bright colors, fresh flowers, and beautiful paintings. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite match up to the other enjoyable aspects of the restaurant. I was shocked to see that this place has an average of 4.9 stars because the food was very average for the price. The Miang Ka Na appetizer was underwhelming considering it was an assemble-your-own kind of salad wrap. The Gaeng Poo curry was delicious, but I felt that for the portion, there wasn’t enough crab meat. The tofu pad see ew was a good meal but the tofu tasted bland and was dry. The fried fish also felt dry and a little bit of a chore to eat. I want to add that I regularly eat whole fish and seafood, but I think in a restaurant setting, where these kinds of bigger meals are usually shared, these kinds of dishes need to be made easier to enjoy and with generous protein.
September 22 · Noyonika ParulekarGreat service + amazing food!! I love EVERYTHING especially crab curry is on fireeeeee! I highly recommend to bring a group of your friends so you get to try everything. They also have a very cute backyard which is my favorite seat spot. Service was really nice and friendly. Worth try it and you’ll never see Thai food boring anymore!
August 20 · Tanya CotsenAs a Thai person who has been dining at both popular and lesser-known Thai restaurants in NYC for the past four years, I can confidently and genuinely say this is the best Thai restaurant I’ve eaten at in the city so far.My pride and pressure were high for the first time, bringing my non-Thai friends to a Thai restaurant, I was hesitating, seeing a review mentioning the food had rather good presentation than flavors, plus she mentioned being asked to scan QR code to write review kept me questioning about their good rating because I know many big-name Thai restaurant do that and I find it off putting. But I decided to give this place a try because of its interesting menu. We shared the Pomelo Salad and the famous purple dumplings. The dumplings were good but not really my taste, while the salad was light, refreshing, and not too spicy. Great appetizer for summer. For my entrée, I ordered Baked Crab in coconut milk and curry paste, or Hor Mok in Thai. This dish is very personal to me; it’s my grandmother’s specialty and my favorite. It’s also rare to find on menus outside Thailand. I had it twice in NYC, and it’s never been good. This version was incredible: large chunks of crab, rich curry paste blended with creamy coconut milk, the fragrance of herbs, and a citrus note from makrut lime leaf. It was so good.I also tried my friends’ entrées. The Panang Beef was bold and very rich, with perfectly tender beef, better than many Panang dishes I’ve had in Thailand. The Kang Ranjuan, a rare dish even back home, had a clear, flavorful broth with tender beef and was a great contrast after several coconut milk dishes. My partner’s dish, Mackerel in coconut milk soup, was the star of the night, comforting and nostalgic, reminding me of childhood dinners. I think this might be one of the very few places in NYC serving it.The service was excellent. We sat in the backyard, and our waiter was warm, kind, and attentive. He explained the food and drinks very well. Also, the drinks here are unlike other Thai restaurants in the city; they aren't sweet at all, and we loved them so much! I finished everything. It’s been two months since that dinner, and I’m still counting the days until I can return. I’ve told everyone I know about this place.
September 18 · Jazz ChomboonWalking in, I was greeted immediately by warm lighting and tasteful décor—Thai art prints, gentle wood tones, and plants that gave the place a cozy but polished feel. The staff were friendly and attentive. Our server explained the menu well and checked in often without being overbearing. Prices are mid-range. Dishes hover around what you’d expect for a sit-down Thai, and portion sizes are generous enough for two to share a main and a side.I’ll definitely go back, especially to try more of the curries and desserts.
September 28 · Shaina MahajanOur fave thai restaurant in the neighborhood. They’ve only been opened a year and their reviews don’t lie. First Thai place where I’ve liked the curries more than the pad Thai (yes I’m basic). We loved the crab curry, duck curry, the pomelo salad (which is like a delicious grapefruit salad, not at all bitter), and bael juice (not sweet, very refreshing). Looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes!
