Choosing Sala Thai is choosing an authentic culinary journey right in the heart of the Upper West Side. The restaurant's dedication to serving dishes that are "intentional" and capture the "soulful flavors of home or Southeast Asia" is a compelling reason for any discerning New Yorker to visit. Patrons consistently return because the quality of food remains high and the flavors are distinctly more refined and complex than many local competitors. Even seemingly simple dishes, such as the Pad Khing Ginger with shrimp and the vegetarian Pad Thai, are described as "delicious, well presented and the right portions."
The depth of the menu, particularly the SUM RUB THAI and Over Rice - Thai Street Food sections, offers exceptional value and variety. The chance to try unique, celebratory dishes like CHILEAN SEA BASS IN AROMATIC COCONUT MILK ($36.00) or the elevated Pad Thai Bolan—which features prawns, egg net, and distinct presentation—ensures that the meal feels like a special event. Furthermore, the substantial Lunch Special menu offers an incredible opportunity to enjoy high-quality dishes like Kao Soy or Red Curry for just $13.00, making authentic Thai food accessible and affordable during the weekday.
While one customer noted the cocktails might "lean more toward New York tastes" and didn't hit the mark for them, the overall excellence of the cuisine, the "warm, attentive, and professional" staff, and the vibrant atmosphere more than compensate. The availability of diverse and unique Thai beverages like **Lychee Thai Tea** and the exceptional desserts, such as the **Chocolate Thai Tea Lava Cake**, round out the full, luxurious dining experience. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is the one and only Thai restaurant I keep coming back to in New York. I’ve dined here twice, and each visit has left me deeply satisfied. In fact, it’s hands down the best Thai food I’ve had in the city, no exaggeration. The flavors are refined and beautifully balanced, capturing the heart of authentic Asian cuisine. Every dish feels intentional, with just the right amount of care in both preparation and presentation. The staff are warm, attentive, and professional, which only enhances the experience. If you’re a fan of spicy food like me, don’t hesitate to ask for traditional Thai heat. If not, they’re more than happy to adjust the spice level to your comfort. The space is cozy and lively, tables are close together, but it never feels cramped.I’ve tried six dishes so far, and not one has let me down. If you’re craving the bold, soulful flavors of home or Southeast Asia, this place is not to be missed. Make a reservation on Google to ensure the best service, it’s worth it.The cocktails might lean more toward New York tastes, strong and didn’t quite hit the mark for me, but everything else more than made up for it. This is a gem I’ll keep returning to, and I hope the team continues to keep up their amazing work.
July 26 · Cody Robbie TranI have been coming to Sala Thai since they first opened in 2018. I have visited also many of the Thai places in the area, Thai 72, Senn Thai & Land Thai among others however, Sala Thai has a more authentic flare with it’s decoration as well as the variety of the plates. This time it was my wife and I for a casual dinner. She had the Pad Khing Ginger with shrimp and I had the vegetable Pad Thai. Both delicious, well presented and the right portions. When in the Upper West Side, stop by and enjoy. Place is small and always busy, I will recommend reservations if it is a party of at least four. "Eat deliciously"
October 07 · Luis MartinezGreat food and service. We tried their Pad Thai Bolan And Chilean Sea Bass. Both came out hot and delicious. Keep in mind that there might be a longer than usual wait time if you during their peak hours if you don’t have a reservation. We had a 30 minute wait for a table for 2 because we didn’t make one. I would definitely go back. Highly recommended.
September 24 · Markanmak MA must-visit spot for authentic Thai food in NYC. The food is outstanding, offering true Thai flavors. We did have to wait about 30-40 minutes for a table, but that was likely due to our large group; otherwise, the wait time might be shorter. Regardless, it was definitely worth it. We sampled a variety of vegetarian dishes, and loved almost all of them—though I deducted one star for the Garden Roll, which wasn’t quite up to par. The Red Curry and Massaman Curry were absolutely delicious, easily some of the best I’ve had. The atmosphere is fantastic, making it one of the top Thai restaurants in the city.
July 13 · Hitendra JagtapThe appetizers were excellent, especially the beautiful purple one which was almost too pretty to eat. The drunken noodle was absolutely phenomenal and everything we tried was delicious. The atmosphere had great energy but it was really loud, to the point where I couldn’t hear much. It was also pretty hot inside even though the fans were on. Still, the food alone makes it worth a visit.
