Soothr Introduce
In the competitive and diverse food scene of New York City, finding an authentic Thai restaurant that truly stands out can be a challenge. Enter Soothr, a celebrated Thai Noodle Bar located in the vibrant East Village. Pronounced 'sood' and meaning 'Recipe' in Thai, Soothr is much more than a simple noodle shop; it is a culinary destination that brings regional Thai specialties, often hard to find elsewhere in Manhattan, right to the heart of the city. The restaurant's commitment to using family recipes and layering bold, comforting flavors has earned it a well-deserved recognition from the prestigious MICHELIN Guide.
Soothr was founded by a trio of friends who shared a vision of showcasing the diverse, regional Thai cooking traditions from their upbringings, particularly the Sukhothai style of Central Thailand and the intense flavors of the North. This dedication to authenticity results in a menu that is both familiar and excitingly new. While you can certainly find classics like Pad Thai and Pad Si-Iw, the true draw lies in the signature noodle bowls and elevated street food-style dishes that are packed with flavor and heritage. The warm, inviting ambiance—described by the MICHELIN Guide as a "buzzy hotspot" with vintage touches, tufted red leather booths, and a charming back garden—perfectly complements the electrifying cuisine.
As a local New Yorker, you’ll appreciate that Soothr is popular for everything from a lively dinner with a group to a comfortable solo dining experience. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy, drawing a diverse crowd of locals, tourists, and the LGBTQ+ community, reinforcing its status as a welcoming and safe space. However, due to its acclaim and cozy size, reservations for lunch and dinner are strongly recommended to secure a table and avoid the usual wait.
Accessibility is excellent, which is a key advantage in Manhattan. The restaurant is only a short walk from the Union Square subway station, which is a major transportation hub offering access to the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, W, and L train lines. This multitude of transit options makes it easy for patrons coming from virtually any part of the city. While there is free street parking available in the vicinity, New Yorkers know that this can be unpredictable; using public transport is the most reliable way to arrive. The central location also makes it perfect for dining before or after exploring the Union Square Greenmarket, catching a show, or visiting the nearby New York University (NYU) area. The location is truly a nexus of convenience, culture, and cuisine.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I LOVE to eat at “Soothr” each time I’m there I always enjoy the delectable food. (Kah Soi, Crab Fried Rice, Pad Thai, mussaman curry are among my favorites) the flavors are bold but comforting. The Service is great! Louis L, is one of the best servers, always so kind/inviting, also very attentive and explains the menu so well. The ambiance and decor are perfect. “soothr” is one of my go to places to eat on my day off. You will never be disappointed and you will always want to come back for more.
October 07 · Liam Barredo5 stars all around! This restaurant is a gem. We tried the Thai tea, fried branzino, shrimp curry, and tom yum seafood hotpot, and every single thing was delicious and fresh. The branzino was a particular standout – so crispy and flavorful.A special shout-out to our server, Gavin! He was so welcoming from the moment we sat down. His big smile and friendly, helpful attitude made our dinner so enjoyable. We’ll be back soon
October 11 · Ziteng DiaoI've heard such great things about this place for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally made it in! It absolutely lived up to the hype. We started with the Thai tea, which was the perfect balance of sweet and creamy – exactly what I was hoping for.For our mains, we shared the fried branzino, shrimp curry, and the tom yum seafood hotpot. Each dish was a masterpiece! The branzino was light, crispy, and full of flavor. The shrimp curry was rich and aromatic, and the tom yum hotpot was a symphony of spicy, sour, and savory notes, packed with fresh seafood.A huge part of our amazing experience was our server, Gavin. He greeted us with a massive, genuine smile and was so helpful and friendly throughout our entire meal. He offered great recommendations and checked on us just the right amount. His positive energy truly elevated our night. This first visit definitely won't be our last, and we'll certainly be asking for Gavin's section next time
October 11 · L JessieFood was really good — so good I came here 2 times in one week. My dad is Thai and I am leaving to Thailand this weekend, but this restaurant lived up to expectations. The Koong Karee and Beef Pad See Ew were the best. Also, Louis was the sweetest server! Thank you so much for the birthday shots! Their attentiveness was great.
August 14 · Tanya IttimeykinAmazing food at Soothr. So tasty and flavorful. They didn’t have much for options regarding non alcoholic cocktails but they made me their signature Rose Quartz as nonalcoholic and it was delicious. Started with the duck rolls which came out pipping hot and had a good plum sauce to go with it. I definitely recommend this. Had the Spicy braised beef Pad Krapow for the entree which came with a side of rice. It was tasty but didn’t come with much sauce. So keep that in mind if going for that. But all in all, great food and good portion sizes. Their service was excellent also. As I went during the lunch special I had a complimentary side of their meatballs. Delicious.
