Wayla Introduce
Wayla NYC stands as an authentic and celebrated destination on the Lower East Side for New Yorkers craving bold, homestyle Thai cuisine presented with a modern, fresh approach. Unlike typical Thai restaurants, Wayla draws inspiration directly from the vibrant street markets of Bangkok, translating those immersive flavors and comforting dishes into a sophisticated yet casual dining experience. The name "Wayla," which means 'time' in Thai, perfectly encapsulates the feeling of stepping into a cherished, timeless culinary space, often described as an elegant yet cozy haven.
The atmosphere is a key feature, striking a delightful balance between casual, trendy, and romantic. The decor incorporates traditional Thai accents, making diners feel as though they are enjoying a meal in a charming, traditional Thai yard. This feeling is heightened by the restaurant’s most famous feature: the "Eden-like" backyard garden patio, a rare and sought-after respite from the city's busy streets. It's a perfect backdrop for a date night or a lively dinner with a group, often praised for its beautiful lighting and refreshing ambiance.
Wayla's menu offers an exciting journey through regional Thai specialties. The focus is on authentic, flavorful bites, starting with "Street Market" appetizers like the juicy BBQ Beef, the aromatic Curry Puff, and the perfectly crispy Fried Calamari. Main courses feature standouts like the rich Lump Crab Fried Rice, the satisfying Shrimp Pad Thai, and the exquisite Fried Branzino with a red curry sauce—a dish frequently lauded for its tender, flaky fish and balanced sauce. The culinary team is adept at adjusting spice levels and accommodating allergies, ensuring a memorable and personalized meal for everyone. Wayla truly is a hidden gem that delivers a memorable dining experience for seasoned Thai food enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Wayla is located at 100 Forsyth St, New York, NY 10002, USA, placing it in the dynamic and cultural nexus of the Lower East Side (LES) in Manhattan. Finding the entrance is part of the charm, as the venue is often described as a 'hidden gem,' typically located on a basement level with minimal street-level signage. Patrons are advised to pay close attention to the address and walk down the stairs to enter.
The Lower East Side location offers excellent accessibility via New York City’s comprehensive public transportation network. It is within a short walking distance of several subway stations, including the F train at East Broadway or Delancey Street–Essex Street, and the J/M/Z trains at Bowery or Essex Street, making it easily reachable from almost anywhere in the city. While general accessibility information is not explicitly provided, the establishment operates under NYC's compliance standards for businesses, and its multi-level nature (basement) suggests that patrons with mobility concerns may benefit from calling ahead to inquire about specific access routes and seating options, especially for the coveted outdoor patio.
As a highly sought-after destination, the restaurant recommends dinner reservations, particularly for the patio seating, as there is usually a wait for walk-ins during peak hours. The overall accessibility to a lively, cozy, and romantic atmosphere right in the heart of downtown contributes significantly to its popularity with groups and tourists looking for an authentic NYC dining experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Wayla NYC – Flavorful Bites & Refreshing SipsWayla NYC delivers bold Thai flavors with a modern twist. The cucumber mocktail is light and cooling, while the ginger mocktail brings a zesty, invigorating kick—both are must-tries for non-drinkers.The beef patties are juicy and perfectly seasoned, offering a satisfying bite. The mango salad with crispy anchovies is a standout—sweet, salty, and spicy in all the right ways. For a plant-based option, the tofu and green beans stir-fried in chili paste is savory, aromatic, and full of texture.A perfect spot for flavorful food and mocktails that are purposefully designed and perfected. One of the best Thai food places I’ve been too in New York City. Worth coming downtown to visit.
October 08 · RiannaIf you're craving authentic Thai cuisine with bold flavors and a welcoming atmosphere, Wayla is a hidden gem that deserves your attention. The décor is elegant yet cozy, with traditional Thai accents that makes you feel you are on a Thai yard eating with friends. We started with the fried calamari and mango salad, which were so tasty. That mango salad with anchovies was a great combo between salty and sweet, so delicious. For main course we had the fried branzino with a red curry sauce, the crab Pad Thai and Duck on curry sauce. Now the duck, wow, never been a fan of duck but this duck with curry was so tender and crispy and not gamy and that curry sauce complemented it very well. Definitely recommend it.Service was friendly and efficient. Our server was happy to adjust spice levels and allergies and offered great recommendations for both food and drinks. The mocktails were a great balance for the food. The mango sticky rice dessert was the ideal sweet finish—ripe mango slices over warm, coconut-infused sticky rice.Whether you're a Thai food enthusiast or trying it for the first time, Wayla delivers a memorable dining experience.
August 13 · Jo LWe love the Brunch here was just spot on the appetizers were light and tasty like the summer rolls and Mushrooms and the Beef Jerky with the Calamari being a staple. We love the brunch items and new edition to the menu.Especially the chive pancakes and shrimp Donuts, cannot wait to try more.
October 10 · DanielLoved this little gem before menu refresh. Love it even more now with some fantastic additions (thankfully the crispy chicken wings are still on the menu. you'll need more than one order. trust me)As always, bartender has put together some great cocktails with interesting ingredients. He's also great with bespoke requests! Our group shared several plates (pics included) and while I would order any and all of them again, standouts for me were the fried shimeji mushroom app, the wok-fried shrimp, and the strip steak.Love their patio space (great for weekend brunch on a beautiful day!) We love bringing our out-of-town guests here. It's always a hit. Thai food like they've never had it!
August 20 · pam grimaldiMy wife and I had a great dinner experience with friends! We ordered several sides and mains. Highlights included Gui Chai Tod (chive pancakes), Karipup Gai (Thai chicken curry puff), Nua Sa Wan (Thai style crispy beef jerky), Nua Yang (12 oz marinated NY strip steak. We had the delicious Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. Since we were doing a dry month, we ordered two mocktails, Ginger Pear and Cucumber Thyme, with our meal. Both were well balanced and not overly sweet. We will be coming back to try more dishes and their signature cocktails!
