Zabb PuTawn Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a truly authentic and deeply flavorful Thai dining experience, look no further than Zabb PuTawn. Located in the heart of the Upper East Side, this Thai and Southeast Asian restaurant is more than just a local spot; it’s a culinary destination, celebrated for bringing the distinct, bold, and often spicy flavors of Northern and Northeastern (Isan) Thailand right to Manhattan. Unlike many Americanized Thai eateries, Zabb PuTawn, meaning “deliciousness from Thailand” (or 'Craveably Delicious' by some accounts), stands out by specializing in regional delicacies that are hard to find elsewhere in the city. The foundation of this remarkable authenticity comes from the Michelin-starred expertise of Chef Therdtus “Tony” Rittaprom, who learned to cook from his parents in the Isan region.
Chef Tony Rittaprom is renowned for his unapologetically genuine Isan fare. His previous work at Zabb Elee in Queens earned a coveted Michelin star, and Zabb PuTawn continues this tradition, combining classic Isan favorites with Northern Thai specialties like larb moo kua. The restaurant prides itself on delivering consistent, high-quality food, which customers frequently praise for its 'authentic flavors' and spice levels that genuinely reflect traditional Thai cooking. Whether you're a long-time fan of Thai cuisine or eager to explore beyond the usual Pad Thai, Zabb PuTawn promises a warm, cozy atmosphere and a menu brimming with unique and exciting dishes, all while offering excellent, fast service.
This welcoming restaurant offers a casual and cozy ambiance, often described as intimate, making it a perfect place for locals to gather for a meal. The decor is clean, focusing the attention squarely on the exceptional food. It’s popular for both lunch and dinner, and is considered a great option for solo diners. The focus on genuine Thai flavors is consistently mentioned in customer feedback, confirming its reputation as one of the best and most authentic Thai spots on the Upper East Side—and arguably in the entire city.
Zabb PuTawn is conveniently situated in the Upper East Side neighborhood of New York, making it an accessible spot for residents and visitors alike.

Choosing Zabb PuTawn means choosing an uncompromised journey into the regional flavors of Thailand without leaving New York City. The restaurant’s greatest strength is its commitment to authenticity, spearheaded by Chef Tony's background. For the local New Yorker tired of overly sweet, standard Thai takeout, this is a breath of fresh, spicy air.
It is worth choosing for the sheer depth of the menu, particularly the Jarn Ded (Northern & Northeastern Thai Delicacies) section. Dishes like Gaeng Om (Isan Style Soup) and Naem Gradook Moo (Deep-Fried Fermented Pork Ribs) offer a culinary experience rarely found in the US. Even familiar items, like the Green Curry (Gaeng Kio Wan) and Pad Thai, are prepared with attention to detail and traditional, robust flavors that stand out. Patrons consistently rave about the "best Panang Curry" and the authentic spice levels that are customizable but true to tradition—be sure to specify your heat preference!
In addition to the main courses, don't miss the starters like the crispy Spring Rolls or the savory Sai Grog Isan (Isan Sausage). Dessert highlights, such as the classic Mango Sticky Rice or the traditional Thai Coconut Custard (Kanom Tuay), provide a perfect, sweet finish. For a refreshing beverage, the Thai Iced Coffee or Thai Iced Tea is a 'must-try' favorite among regulars, often cited as the best in the area. With reasonable pricing for the high-quality, authentic ingredients, a dedicated, friendly staff, and the convenience of being a central Upper East Side location, Zabb PuTawn is a superb choice for a dependable, delicious, and truly genuine Thai meal in New York.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This Thai spot delivers excellent food with bold, authentic flavors. The papaya salad had the perfect spice level and was incredibly fresh. Service was outstanding—friendly, fast, and attentive. A great choice for flavorful Thai cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.
May 17 · Yossi LCame here for dinner and I could say that it’s one of the best Thai places I’ve been to. The staff is very accommodating and attentive. It was indeed a pleasant experience dining in Zabb Putawn. Also, their Thai Iced Coffee is a must try!! 😋
April 23 · SophiaCame here last night and was so impressed by how delicious every dish was. I got the northern style pork rib stew and I swear it’s my new favorite comfort meal. The meat is so tender, falls right off the bone. The sticky rice with the stew was unreal. The service was amazing. Water was refilled as we sweat through the spice 🤣 If you can’t handle spice, I recommend getting mild. We were too ambitious and got medium. OH and the pork jowl. HOLY. It was life changing. Please get both. Thank you for such a great experience! My boyfriend and I enjoyed it a lot ❤️
December 11 · Vivian AnnVisited this past weekend twice and this place did not disappoint! I love Thai food and have eaten the real deal in Thailand. This is one of the most authentic Thai restaurants I’ve been to. The spice level and flavors really hit the spot. When the server brought out the 4 mini side chili powder and sauces, I was in heaven. 😍 The chef special papaya salad was phenomenal! Everything was delicious. Only minor negative was no meatballs in the noodle soups. Otherwise loved this place!
July 27 · Jia YajUpdate: I’ve been eating here every other week for months.. and I’m so disappointed today. I ordered dinner which was crispy rice with soured pork. There was some stony substance in there. I’m not sure what it is.. but I couldn’t eat it. It was like sand everywhere.. This was disappointing. More than half my order was just lettuce. This is the first time I’m leaving a review for a restaurant. The first time I visited this place was a week ago.. We ordered quite a bit and every single thing was spot on! I am very picky about eating at places and this spot has to be the best Thai food in NYC.Everything that I had here has great flavors. The spice levels were fantastic!! Unlike most restaurants, they don’t cater to a white populations tastebuds.. the food is spicy but can be adjusted..I travelled from New Jersey to get here last night and even though I reached late, they still served me and patiently waited for us to finish the meal. The people are exceptionally kind here. I would 1000% recommend this place. I know good food and good flavors and this was definitely worth every penny. I think you ought to try this spot at least once because you’ll definitely keep coming back!
