AYAM Introduce
New York City's culinary landscape is known for its incredible diversity, and **AYAM** in Long Island City, Queens, is a shining example of this rich fusion. AYAM is not just a Thai restaurant; it offers a compelling, specialized menu that masterfully brings together the best of Thai and Malaysian "Eats," with a strong focus on high-quality chicken and comforting rice and noodle dishes. For local users in the New York region, especially those in Queens and the surrounding boroughs, AYAM represents a truly unique and exciting dining option that goes beyond the typical Thai takeaway spot.
The name "AYAM," which means 'chicken' in Malay and Indonesian, immediately signals their commitment to this primary protein, which is prepared with a high degree of authenticity and care. Their specialty is a refined take on the beloved Asian chicken rice dishes, seamlessly merging this Malaysian staple with classic Thai street food flavors. This unique positioning makes AYAM a destination for diners specifically craving either authentic Malaysian dishes like Nasi Lemak or expertly executed Thai favorites such as Pad Thai and Khao Soi. The establishment is officially categorized as a Thai restaurant, yet it celebrates the culinary interconnectedness of the region, providing a diverse yet focused menu that is perfect for lunch or dinner.
AYAM is perfectly situated in the vibrant and rapidly evolving Long Island City (LIC) neighborhood of Queens, making it an easy and convenient stop for many New Yorkers.
The restaurant’s address is **40-13 35th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101, USA**. This location places it in the heart of LIC, easily accessible from various points in Queens and a short commute from Manhattan. While specific proximity to a subway station would require local navigation, Long Island City is famously well-served by the NYC subway system (including the N, W, R, M, E, 7, and G lines nearby), making AYAM reachable via public transit. The accessibility of the location is part of its appeal to the burgeoning local crowd in LIC.
The surrounding neighborhood is family-friendly, and the restaurant offers seating, welcoming a casual dining crowd for a pleasant, sit-down meal.
To accommodate the busy schedules of New Yorkers, AYAM offers a comprehensive range of service options designed for maximum convenience and flexibility:
- **Dine-in:** Enjoy a comfortable dining experience with seating available for lunch and dinner.
- **Takeout:** Quick and easy option for picking up your meal directly from the Long Island City location.

AYAM’s menu is carefully curated, focusing on a few select dishes that they execute to perfection, blending two beloved Southeast Asian cuisines. The quality of the food and the uniqueness of the offerings are major highlights:
- **Halal Offerings:** A significant feature of AYAM is its commitment to providing **Halal food**, making it an inclusive and trusted dining option for customers who adhere to Halal dietary standards.
- **Signature Chicken Rice Varieties:** The core of the menu revolves around their expertise with chicken rice. You can choose from three main styles, each priced at a reasonable $15.00: Steamed Chicken Rice (poached chicken with ginger rice and spicy ginger sauce), Fried Chicken Rice (boneless fried chicken with ginger rice), and Grilled Chicken Rice.
- **The Ultimate Combo:** The Combo Chicken Rice ($18.40) is a must-try highlight, allowing diners to select any two types of their perfectly cooked chicken—Steamed, Fried, or Grilled—alongside their signature ginger rice, rich chicken broth, and fermented spicy ginger sauce. This is a popular and highly recommended dish.
- **Malaysian Specialties:** AYAM provides hard-to-find Malaysian specialties for the NYC market, including the national dish, Nasi Lemak ($15.00) (fragrant coconut rice served with fried chicken, crispy anchovies, peanuts, sambal, boiled egg, and cucumber), and the savory stuffed egg pancake, Murtabak ($11.50).
- **Classic Thai Noodles:** Catering to the Thai restaurant category, they offer excellently prepared noodle dishes like Pad Thai ($15.00), Pad See Ew ($16.10), and the popular spicy option, Pad Kee Mao ($16.10), ensuring fans of classic Thai cuisine are satisfied. Their rich and warming Khao Soi ($15.00), a Northern Thai coconut curry noodle dish, is another standout.
- **Unique Beverages:** The drinks menu features traditional Southeast Asian refreshments such as Thai Iced Tea ($5.80), the unique rose-flavored milky drink Iced Bandung ($5.80), and fruity sodas like Thai Sala Soda ($4.60), offering an authentic taste experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We’re so excited to have Malay chicken rice so close to our home now. Every bite was mouthwatering and delicious. We had the murtabang, pad Thai, And combo chicken rice with steamed and fried chicken. It was so good, highly recommend A visit here. Will be back soon.
October 02 · Johana BhuiyanI am a huge lover of indonesian / malay food, which can be difficult to find outside asia, so was so excited to see Ayam coming to astoria. The design is very cool and the selection of dishes is great. Wonderful to see murtabak on there. My only small gripe is that for the price I would expect a little more effort in some of the dishes or bigger portions. The quality of the chicken is great, but the grilled chicken plate is esentially just chicken, rice, and a few cucumbers. Another vegtable or some aromatics would help.
July 01 · Beau MahadevThis is a great little casual Thai Malay spot. Nice simple design. We liked the funny chicken themed decor and posters. There are a couple tables for 2 people to sit in and a high top bench area. Otherwise its ideal as a quick takeout spot. We ordered the Murtabak, Pad Kra Pow, and Fried Chicken Rice. The food was very tasty and filling. The Murtabak was especially flavorful and unique. Service was friendly and great, and pricing was very reasonable.
July 21 · Najeeb AbdullahFlavor and execution wise, one of the best nasi lemaks I've personally had. The chicken was fried perfectly and was so tasty with the sambal and coconut rice. I do feel the portion is a little small for what you pay for, as I wasn't really full. Since I can't do 4.5 stars, I will give them the full rating as I do believe people should give them a try and support this new local business. It was really delicious . I want to return to try the other things, but the portion size may keep me away for the time being.
May 21 · AlexSuch a cool aesthetic and the food is just as good. Nasi Lemak and wonton chips are to die for and I love the drink selection. The employees are so kind and hardworking too, will definitely be stopping by whenever I’m in the area
