Xay's Kitchen Laos & Thai Cuisine Introduce
For Connecticut residents, particularly those in the Fairfield County area, finding truly authentic and comforting Southeast Asian cuisine can be a rewarding experience. **Xay's Kitchen Laos & Thai Cuisine** in Danbury stands out as a unique and treasured local gem, offering a genuine taste of both Thai and, significantly, Laotian culinary traditions. This family-run restaurant, started by Xay, a mother passionate about sharing her generational family recipes, is celebrated by locals for its authenticity and quality, bringing the diverse, bold flavors of two distinct, yet related, cuisines to the heart of Connecticut.
Customers consistently praise the restaurant for providing an experience that "tastes like authentic Thai" and is the "go-to for authentic Lao food." The atmosphere is described as casual, cozy, and quiet, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed lunch or a fulfilling dinner. The establishment prides itself on its fast service, ensuring that even busy Connecticut professionals can enjoy a high-quality, made-to-order meal without a lengthy wait.
The menu is a rich tapestry of classic dishes from both nations. Thai favorites like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and various curries (Red, Green, Yellow, and Mussaman) are featured prominently. However, the restaurant truly shines in its offering of Laotian specialties. The **Kao Piek Sen**, a comforting chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles, is a customer favorite, described as "just comfort food on a called winter day." Another authentic standout is the **Som Tum (Lao)**, the shredded raw papaya salad, with customers noting its "original flavor," alongside a friendly caution about customizing the spice level to taste.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My go to for authentic Lao food. I’ve been coming here since they opened in 2019. Kao piek sen is just comfort food on a called winter day... the broth is light and delicious with home made noodles. It's a difficult choice next to pho. You can never go wrong with the appetizers. Had the fried pompano fish, it’s incredible! And the prices are reasonable.
September 14 · Claudine R.Taste like authentic Thai. Their somtom is original flavor. Careful for spiciness level if u order papaya salad. Lunch special is reasonable price and good portion, last me 2 meals.
May 11 · Arja ReelsTotally worth the price. Maybe they are not using the expensive meat or vegetables, but the smell and the taste is nothing but correct. And the size surprised me. One can never get such a big bowl of Tom Yum soup with less than $15.I highly recommend the papaya salad. The curry is a bit too sweet for me. The Thai tea is too sweet for me, too.The service is also great😊 I am so glad that Danbury had such a good Thai restaurant and I truly wish them good luck with their business.
August 08 · Mengxia YuThe vegetarian pho here is delicious. Very flavorful and filled with the best toppings. Everyone here is great, I love stopping by. The Thai iced tea is phenomenal and always so cute with their rose papers! Their Thai basil fried rice and pad Thai is also a hit! Looking forward to coming back and trying more. I always recommend this spot for anyone in Danbury. Especially because it’s very affordable Thai food! Come during lunch :)
December 05 · The Foodie BaddieHad a fantastic meal at Xay's Kitchen! The Som Tom salad was packed with bold flavors and the 5-chilli rating I asked for really hit the spot. Loved the chicken soup noodle dish – it was comforting and well-balanced. Don't miss out on the shrimp croquette-style rolls, they were a tasty addition to the meal.Overall, I was impressed by their commitment to authentic flavors, especially given the location. Highly recommend Xay's Kitchen for a delicious and satisfying dining experience!
