Located in the bustling heart of New Haven, right on Chapel Street, Pad Thai Restaurant is a long-standing culinary fixture, serving the Connecticut community since its establishment (originally as "Puket" restaurant, quickly renamed to Pad Thai). Situated conveniently near major New Haven institutions like Yale University's campus and Morse College, it caters perfectly to the diverse crowds of college students, locals, and groups seeking a genuine and high-quality Thai dining experience. Known for its commitment to authentic flavors and an impressive focus on speed, the restaurant has cemented its reputation as a reliable and essential spot for both quick lunches and relaxed dinners.
The menu at Pad Thai Restaurant is extensive, covering all the beloved classics and offering deeper cuts of Thai cuisine. As the name suggests, the Pad Thai is a staple—a comforting dish of stir-fried rice noodles with egg, tofu, ground peanuts, scallions, and bean sprouts. However, the offerings extend far beyond, encompassing a wide array of noodle dishes such as Pad See-Ew, Drunken Noodle, and the unique, spicy Chiya Noodle in a red curry sauce. The restaurant ensures there is a perfect noodle plate for every preference, from sweet and savory to fiery and aromatic.
The curry selection is a particularly strong feature, providing patrons with seven distinct variations of Thai curry. Whether you crave the medium spice of Thai Red Curry and Green Curry, the rich flavor profile of Massaman Curry with sweet potatoes and peanuts, the depth of Panang Curry, or the adventurous Jungle Curry, there is a coconut milk-based delight to suit your taste. The menu even includes the specialty Pineapple Paradise Curry, blending sweet and spicy notes with chunks of tropical fruit.
Beyond the core dishes, Pad Thai Restaurant offers exciting and complex entrées under its Dinner Meat and Vegetables section, allowing diners to customize their protein (chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, or tofu) with various preparations like Hot Basil, Ginger, Cashew Nut, and the intensely flavored Spicy Bamboo. The dedication to providing exceptional meals is further showcased in the Duck Dinner section, which features specialties like Roasted Duck Curry and Duck Talay. Additionally, the Chef's Specials, such as Salmon Mango, Wild Boar Basil, and the seafood-laden Seafood Madness, demonstrate a commitment to innovative and premium offerings.
For the New Haven crowd, particularly the growing number of health-conscious and plant-based diners, Pad Thai Restaurant is an excellent option. They offer clearly marked vegan and vegetarian options, including Vegetarian Pad Thai, Tofu Royal, and the vegetable-focused Eggplant And Asparagus and Green Garden. This thoughtfulness, combined with offerings of Healthy Options and Comfort Food, makes the restaurant highly inclusive and popular across the local community. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Probably the first Thai food I've ever had, and I remember thinking it's so delicious. I've been to Pad Thai many times, and expect to go back again. One time, there was a big group of us and they were willing to rearrange the tables to accommodate us. They're very flexible and friendly.
July 29 · John KimWe walked in at maybe 6:30 PM on a Saturday night and almost left because the restaurant was completely empty- never a good sign on a weekend night during peak dinner hours. The menu isn’t extensive- some of my favorites like Khao Soi and pad kra pow weren’t there. We ordered Mai Thai, Pad Thai, and Hot Basil with pork and the food came out incredibly fast. We were surprised at how good the food was. The portions were not generous - maybe four small pieces of chicken and three small strips of tofu in the Pad Thai- but the quality was there. They have solid Thai staples and clearly have a pretty busy takeout business. If I lived in New Haven I’d likely get takeout from here every once in awhile.
October 30 · Samuel LeeThe food was amazing, words don't describe the aromas and flavors. Brought two friends that never had Thai food, the were blown away. 100% recommended.
June 29 · Claudio CorderoOrdered pickup/takeout for lunch last week for the first time. The man at the register was friendly when I arrived for pickup and the dining area looked nice and comfortable. People dining appeared to be enjoying their experience. My food was so good and the portion was larger than expected. I was able to make about 3 meals out of the items I ordered, which included the chicken pad Thai, chicken satay, and coconut shrimp. Very delicious and the food was hot when I picked it up & brought it back to work. Will order from here again!
March 18 · Marissa FerraoSo delicious!! Fast service, sweet staff, and delicious food. We asked for lower spice levels, otherwise great flavors.
