SAPPEISAN Introduce
If you're looking to dive into an exciting and authentic corner of Thai gastronomy right here in New York City, you must experience SAPPEISAN. This isn't your average Thai spot; it's a vibrant West Village establishment that specializes in the bold, fiery, and herbaceous flavors of Isan cuisine—the distinct culinary tradition from Thailand's Northeastern region. SAPPEISAN, pronounced "Sep," is a Thai word that captures the feeling of joyfully consuming or partaking in a wonderful experience, and that's precisely the mood the restaurant aims to create.
From the creative minds behind the popular Thai restaurant Soothr, SAPPEISAN transports guests to a nostalgic 1950s-1960s Thai-era, combining a lively, bustling atmosphere reminiscent of a train station market with truly authentic street food and BBQ. It's a place to revel, share a communal meal, and explore unique flavors not commonly found in Manhattan's standard Thai offerings. Diners praise the unique flavors, high-quality products, and the exceptional service, all while enjoying an atmosphere that is at once casual, cozy, and undeniably trendy.
The culinary focus here is on New Isan Edition dishes, an innovative take that honors traditional regional recipes while presenting them with a contemporary twist. The food is known for its intense heat, bold seasoning, and reliance on fresh herbs, with an emphasis on grilled meats (Ping-Yang), potent salads (Tum/Yum), and hearty rice and noodle preparations.
SAPPEISAN is ideally situated in the heart of the desirable West Village neighborhood in Manhattan, making it a convenient destination for locals and a must-visit for tourists exploring the area. Its exact location is:
240 W 14th St, New York, NY 10011, USA
The 14th Street location offers fantastic accessibility for New Yorkers utilizing public transit. It's just steps away from major subway lines, connecting you easily from almost any part of the city. While the neighborhood is busy, the restaurant offers multiple options for those traveling by car.

The Isan focus means you should look beyond the typical Pad Thai and Green Curry (though the menu does feature some classic Thai dishes under the "Soothr for Sappe" section).
For first-timers, the best strategy is to order from the Isan BBQ & Small Bites and Tum / Yum sections to fully immerse yourself in the flavors of Northeastern Thailand. You should absolutely prioritize the following dishes, which are frequently highlighted by reviewers:
- Isan BBQ Skewers: The Moo Ping (grilled pork) and Nuer Ping (grilled beef) skewers are an absolute must-try. Reviewers rave about their marinade and the perfect char.
- Laab Ped Udon: This is Udon Thani's legendary duck Laab—a spicy, crispy minced duck salad with roasted rice powder. It's a hallmark of Isan cuisine and a guaranteed flavor explosion.
- Tum Thai Kai Kem: This is a classic spicy green papaya salad with a punch of umami from a salted egg—essential for an authentic Isan meal.
- Mama E-La: A popular main dish, this wok-fried egg noodle dish is smoky and savory, wok-tossed with beef and Gailan (Chinese broccoli).
- Crying Tiger (Suer Rong Hai): Perfectly grilled, medium-rare rib-eye marinated in Isan spices and served with a fiery Jaew dipping sauce. This is Isan BBQ at its finest.
- Signature Cocktails: Don't skip the drinks! The Somsri (frozen, tequila, guava) and Keerati (yuzu-based) are often cited as some of the best frozen cocktails in the city, perfectly balancing the heat of the food.
The dining style is designed for sharing, allowing you to sample many of the bold, layered, and explosive punches of flavor that define authentic Isan cuisine. The staff, including exceptional servers like Cheer and Amy, are known for being attentive and friendly, ready to guide you through the expansive menu, including dishes like the Yum Pu Dong (fermented blue crab salad) or the seasonal, highly-praised fruit salads. Whether you're enjoying a lively dinner with a group or a flavorful solo lunch, SAPPEISAN provides a memorable and genuinely unique Thai dining experience in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Food was delicious! I would definitely go again. Our server Cheer was super friendly and attentive while still managing multiple tables. My main dish was Mama E-La and I LOVED it. My partner ordered the Sen Kua and it was alright, the noodles didnt have much flavor but the crispy pork on top was SO GOOD. For the skewers are top favorite were the Moo ping and Nuer ping. For drinks we both love yuzu and loved the Keerati. The drink was beautiful and had a nice presentation.
October 09 · TeeWe had a fantastic experience at Sappe! The seasonal grape salad was absolutely amazing, so fresh and flavorful. We loved it so much that we came back the next day to try the marinated crab, and it did not disappoint delicious and full of flavor.Amy was a wonderful server attentive, friendly, and made us feel really welcome. She even surprised us with a complimentary dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch.
September 01 · June FangSo this place is a vibe and I definitely like the atmosphere. It is SUPER LOUD, but food is super good. I don’t typically like pad Thais but my pad Thai was amazing and my bf got the sweet beef noodle dish which was also great. The skewers were really good as well as the pork cheeks however the noodle dishes are definitely the star of the show. The cocktails were kind of limited I was looking for a good frozen rum cocktail but they only had one which was tequila I believe. Great food and will definitely be back
September 23 · Kyana IfillThai food served up with high energy and a great vibe in the whole place. Upbeat and professional servers guide you through the abundance of delicious options. Service is swift and the food is top notch. The bar is well worth a look as the cocktails are well versed, tasty and very picturesque. Can’t miss! Make sure you make reservations.
September 09 · Jonas GOur lunch at Sappe was delicious! Our servers Minty and Noon were attentive, helpful, and so kind. We tried three different cocktails, which were all so unique, tasty, and beautiful. The appetizers and meals came out promptly and the flavors were wonderful. We’ll definitely be back!
